Finding and Creating Nourishing Moments of Joy During the Day.
Emotional wellbeing is producing positive emotions, moods, thoughts, and feelings and adapting to adversity and stressful situations.
Neuroscience research shows that savoring pleasant moments several times a day can significantly boost emotional wellbeing.
This practice involves consciously focusing on and appreciating the small joys in life, like a warm cup of coffee, a beautiful sunset, or a kind gesture from a friend, AND taking the time to savor these experiences.
These micro-moments help us to feel anchored in the sense of safety, connection, and ease.
They also contrast with triggers, helping to balance or diffuse their effects.
Neuro-Tip: Cultivating and Savoring Tiny Moments of Joy Throughout the Day
First, mindfully yawn and move your arms in a super slow stretch (3 times).
Then, intentionally focus and immerse yourself in a positive thought.
Close your eyes, yawn, stretch again, retrieve a pleasant memory, or think about someone you love.
Next,
- Savor it for 30 seconds, paying attention to all the sensory details: smells, colors, sounds, and immerse yourself in the sensory experience,
- And fill yourself with feelings of gratitude for it. And last, embrace the feeling of gratitude and joy for the memory and crank up the volume!
*Important:
Set an alarm or mindfulness bell several times daily to remind you to practice this exercise.
For the next two weeks, plan to take several mini-breaks during the day and repeat this exercise.
* After 2 weeks, reflect on the following:
What changes have you noticed? Has anything shifted for you? Are you feeling less reactive? Are you feeling more upbeat?
I would love to hear from you. After two weeks, let me know what you have discovered. You can respond to this newsletter. I read and answer every email I receive.
To your emotional wellbeing,
Fanny:)
