Setting Healthy Boundaries Can Help Us Heal
If we’ve experienced trauma, chronic anxiety, or dysregulation, we may be so used to operating in survival mode that it becomes the norm – without us being aware of it.
We live in a world that normalizes stress.
A vicious looping cycle may start if we do not pause to check in with ourselves.
Make your self-care a priority: Intentionally carve time each day for a wellness check-in.
Allowing time for self-care activities within your routine is essential.
Follow this Neuro-Tip to get started:
Hourly Awareness Check-in:
Set a Mindful Bell Once Each Hour (or every 2 hours) and when it rings…
Slowly and mindfully yawn at least 3 times to release any mental stress/ tension…
and very slowly stretch your arms, bringing your awareness to the sensations in your body, and notice how you feel.
Is your body tired?
Does it feel depleted?
Do you feel tension in a particular area?
Then, cross both arms, hug yourself, and send yourself love and kindness, and visualize and feel a golden light of nurturing energy embracing you.
Do it for 60 seconds.
** If you don’t have a phone or laptop with a mindfulness bell handy, you can adapt this exercise- depending on your activities throughout the day:
Have the intention of doing a quick self-care check-in wherever you are… on the go
Once or twice in the morning, and in the afternoon….
or when you go to the bathroom…
check in with yourself throughout the day to nurture your nervous system.
This exercise can help you solidify the habit of checking in with yourself, feeling balanced and self-regulated.
